Rare U.S. Military Colt-Paterson Model 1839 Percussion Carbine
Serial no. 491, 525 smoothbore caliber, 24 3/8-inch part round/part faceted barrel with
post-type front sight and dovetailed open rear sight. Right side of barrel assembly with
patent loading lever. Barrel lug marked: Patent Arms Mfg. Co., Paterson N.J. Colt's Pt.
six-shot cylinder with standard naval battle, land battle and hunter and trophy scenes and
marked: Colt's Patent/Patent Arms Man'y/Paterson, JERSEY. Case-hardened hammer. Scrolling
triggerguard. Walnut stock with slight traces of oval cartouche visible on left side of
buttstock. Steel buttplate and sling mounts. Sold together with original sales receipt
from Norm Flayderman to present consignor and a letter from a prominent Colt collector,
expounding on the rarity and uniqueness of this carbine.
Condition: Good. Metal showing a grey patina with scattered light
pitting overall. Cylinder retaining approximately 75-85% scene with light wear and pitting
present. Walnut stock with minor dents and bruises.
