Exceptional Cased Colt No. 3 Paterson Belt Model Revolver with Accessories
Serial no. 594, .34 caliber percussion, 5 1/2-inch octagonal barrel marked with
standard finials "Patent Arms M'g Co. Paterson, N-J. - Colt's Pt."; centaur
cylinder roll scene; rounded shoulders to cylinder; blue with case-hardened hammer; high
polish varnish select walnut grips. Serial number markings include the 594 on back of
barrel lug, as well as on back of cylinder, on trigger, and on cylinder turning collar
(latter visible when cylinder removed). Revolver not disassembled further, but additional
numbers will be revealed inside. Flat-sided barrel lug with frame curving down to juncture
with bottom of barrel lug. Extra cylinder with matching serial number stamped on back.
Bevel-lid varnished mahogany case lined with burgundy velvet; accessories of combination
powder and ball flask with standard centerband roll marking and no visible number marking,
wood core to ball section; brass capper with no. marking 110 on inside of lid and on
inside of body; blued steel combination tool; steel bullet mold with sprue cutter, turned
walnut handles; and brass cleaning rod with turned walnut handle.
Condition: Excellent. 90% blue, light wear with spots of light
pitting; cylinder with sharp roll scene; grips with high polish varnish, 99%; small chip
from right panel at top juncture with rear of frame; minor nicks on right side of frame;
light pitting and fading case-hardening on hammer. Very good bore with deep rifling. Case
with 40% varnish, light wear and marks, flaking of finish; German silver scalloped plaque
inlaid on lid; light wear and minor stains to lining; extra cylinder with matching blue
and light wear to that on revolver; accessories excellent; capper with mellow patina;
excellent combination flask with 85% gilt finish.
