engages front of lower frame strap, on lower flat of buttplate, and three times on
faceplate of recoil shield; 431 on bottom of wedge; blued finish, with browned barrel and
cylinder and case-hardened frame plate and hammer. Varnished select walnut stock.

Note: See R.L. Wilson, Dennis LeVett, The Paterson Colt Book, chapter VI1`11II, pages
213-214. Illustrated example no. 836; no. 619 also pictured (pp. 208-209). Estimated total
production of approximately 50, purchased by Samuel Colt from the State of Rhode Island.
Important in that on Colt's early efforts to revive his previously failed firearms
company, he sought also to manufacture longarms. These Paterson arms presented that
opportunity, and specimens were displayed at such events as the Great Exhibition of 1851,
in London. The production was an improved version of the Paterson Carbine made in New
Jersey, made with or without loading levers.
Estimate: $25000 - $35000
