Cased and Inscribed Colt Single Action Army Revolver, with Accessories, Backstrap
Inscribed: "S.C.H. Monro 72nd Highrs"
Serial no. 51009. .450 Boxer caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with maker and 14 Pall Mall
London barrel address on top; three-line three patent date marking on left side of frame;
British proofmarks on bottom of barrel breech and on cylinder breech; blued, with
case-hardened hammer and frame; backstrap inscribed in script: "S.C.H. Monro 72nd
Highrs"; varnished one piece walnut grips; lanyard swivel and stud. Varnished oak
case with circular brass plaque inlaid on lid, pivoting brass hooks and lock at front;
blue felt lining partitioned in English style, "Wm Moore & Wm Grey./Gun
Manufacturers,/To. H.R.H. The Late Prince Consort./& H.R.H. The Duke of Cambridge,/43,
Old Bond Street,/London, W . . . " scarce paper trade label inside lid; accessories
of brass cleaning rod with wood handle, glass oil bottle with tin lid, wood handle
screwdriver, key and lanyard ring and stud from revolver. Cartridge block with antique
cartridges.
Condition: Very good to fine. Traces blue and case-hardening; wear,
pitting and patina, primarily on barrel and cylinder; 25% blue on gripstraps; minor
tracking lines on cylinder; 75% varnish, nicks and wear. Case very fine with light nicks,
wear; missing key plate; accessories very good to fine. Lanyard swivel removed from butt
of revolver.
