Cased and Deluxe Lefaucheux Pinfire Revolver with Ivory-Mounted Accessories
Serial no. 50989, 8mm caliber, 6-shot cylinder; rifled and stepped down barrel
measuring 3 1/2-inches; maker marking on left side of barrel at breech; spur trigger;
engraved with scroll and border motifs; ivory grips. Gold-plated finish. Brass-mounted
rosewood case, lined in burgundy velvet; accessories of ivory-mounted cleaning rod,
screwdriver and oil bottle; obsolete pinfire cartridges in block of lead.
Condition: Very good to fine; 55% gold-plating, with wear. Case with
chips from wood and some lid inlays loose. Lid had been pried open, slight mars, as well
as broken lid latch. Crack in oil bottle body.

SYSTEM LEFAUCHEUX, Continuing Study of PINFIRE CARTRIDGE ARMS Including their role in
the American Civil War by Chris C. Curtis. This 11 1/2 inch by 9 inch, 312 page book
has 329 black and white photos; 80 patent drawings, document and historical advertisement
illustrations; shows 53 inspection and proof marks used on pinfire guns; 70 illustrations
of head stamps used on pinfire cartridges.
In 1983, Gene Smith and Chris Curtis published a limited printing THE
PINFIRE SYSTEM, the very first book on the study of the pinfire guns. This new book is
much more than a reprint, SYSTEM LEFAUCHEUX, Continuing the Study of Pinfire Cartridge
Arms is in many ways an entirely new work. The reader will note scores of additions
including important new historical data, documents, and photographs of guns, cartridges
and accoutrements.
The Pinfire was the forth most commonly used revolver during the Civil War
