12 Gauge J. Blanch & Son Hammer Double Barrel Shotgun with Case
No visible number. 12 gauge. Shortened 26-inch Damascus barrels. Game rib marked: J.
Blanch & Son, 29 Gracechurch St., London. Rib with front and rear bead. Case-hardened
action with back-action rebounding locks. Action and locks with 30-40% fine foliate scroll
and bouquets engraving. Percussion fences. Low hammers. Fine flat topped checkered
straight grip stock of figured walnut. Checkered butt with heel and toe plates. Fine
flat-topped checkered pull-off splinter fore-end with horn tip. Brown canvas covered trunk
case with leather trim. Single brass lock. Straps. Red baize interior.
Condition: Very Good. Barrels show 60-70% brown finish with some
spotting and some light to medium dents. Bright bores with areas of pitting. Top lever
shows looseness. Action/barrels show slight looseness. Action and locks show a silver
patina with traces of case colors in protected areas. Stock shows nicks, scratches, dents
and impressions. Fore-end shows a few light handling marks. Well-defined checkering. Case
in very good condition with fading and stains to canvas and some losses to the trim.
Interior shows insect losses and a few tears or wear spots.
