Winchester Third Model 1873 "Special Order" Lever Action Sporting Rifle
Together with Documenting Factory Letter
Serial no. 394967B, .44-40 caliber, 26-inch half round/half octagonal barrel with
Lyman's "Hunting" front sight and sporting rear elevation sight. Button
magazine. Blued finish. Case-hardened hammer, lever and buttplate. Bottom of lifter finely
dot punch inscribed: HB with leaf and naive image of a deer head. Walnut fore-end and
buttstock. Buttstock with custom steel and brass nail design at wrist and bottom of stock
behind lower tang,
Condition: Good to very good as configured. Retaining approximately
10-15% finish with remaining areas showing grey-brown age patina with scattered light
pitting. Minor scratches on frame. Slight traces of silvered case-hardening remaining.
Fore-end with wear and two sliver chips on left side. Buttstock with wear; minor dents and
blemishes. Action good.
