"BROWN BESS CONFEDERATE ALTERATION MUSKET. SN NSN. Cal. 69. Mr. Michel describes this gun as follows: "Alteration to percussion of 3rd Model Brown Bess British musket. While the alteration is by use of a drum rather than the characteristic brazed bolster, the alteration is clearly intended for military usage with a large military nipple and hammer of M1842 type. This musket is typical of many altered in the South by small gunsmiths or entrepreneurs. Recovered outside Richmond, VA, it has been left in rusty 'untouched barn mint' as proof of its all orig character." You are bidding on a possibly unique Confederate-altered Brown Bess musket in untouched, "attic" or "barn" condition. CONDITION: Bbl, lock, and hammer are brown and heavily pitted. Ramrod is brown, smooth, and pitted. Brass buttplate, trigger guard, and ramrod pipes are all heavily patinaed. Scattered drips of paint are found on various parts of gun. Stock is missing nosecap, but otherwise is sound and complete, with scattered nicks, cracks, and gouges. 4-31264 JS191 (3,000-5,000)"
