Rare and Exotic Indo-Persian 4-Barrel Percussion Shield Gun, c. 1850
The thick, finished leather shield, 23-inches wide with gilt-floral borders and
embossed sun image in center. Four pierced steel bosses with hinged caps. The back side of
shield with complex system of two double-mounted percussion locks designed to fire four
individual rounds, the barrel openings disguised under the relief bosses on the exterior
of shield. Chambers are fired by articulation of levers on the back side. Red velvet arm
straps and pad. A very rare and interesting curiosa item of Indo-persian origins, based on
the European model of the 16th-century.
Condition: Good. Metal showing age wear and patina with scattered
light rust present. One lock mechanism needs minor repair. Exterior of shield with minor
wear and chips to finish.
