Rare and Unique German Ivory and Pearl-Inlaid Combination Flintlock/Dagger/Gun /Axe,
c. 1750
.36 caliber, 15 3/4-inch blued barrel engraved with floral scrolls. Engraved flintlock
mechanism with swan-neck cock. Small finial trigger. Engraved upper tang, flanked by ivory
inlaid borders. Profusely inlaid fruitwood stock, having scrimshawed ivory animals, dyed
ivory and pearl spots and ivory scrolls. Muzzle mounted with scroll-type ax head engraved
with scrolls, bird and seated hare. Opposite side with 4-pronged hammer. Ebony cleaning
rod with spool finial. Butt of gun with concealed 18-1/2-inch spike dagger of diamond
section. Steel oval pommel with ball finial. Overall length: 24 3/4-inches.
Condition: Fine for this type item. Barrel retaining approximately
80-85% reblued finish with scattered light wear and patina. Stock with light wear and
minor crack repairs. Some portions of inlay are replacements. Steel mounts with wear and
pitting.
