Rare Cased, Inscribed and Engraved Massachusetts Arms Co. Belt Model Revolver with
Maynard's Primer and Single Digit Serial Number
Serial no. 6 (or 9), .31 percussion caliber, 6 shot cylinder with etched scroll with
cannon and anchor and spears and flags motifs; 3 1/2-inch barrel, engraved lock, hammer,
primer lid and breech. Standard markings on primer lid and on topstrap; silver-plated
brass backstrap inscribed in script: W.R. Driver, Salem L.I. from Friends. Blued, with
case-hardened topstrap, frame and cylinder pin; silver-plated brass backstrap and
triggerguard; varnished walnut grips. Mahogany case, lined in burgundy velvet; accessories
of embossed Mass. Arms Co. powder flask, brass mold and ramrod (latter of mushroom shape),
L-shaped screwdriver/nipple wrench, tubular tin of Maynard priming tapes, and key.
Condition: Fine to excellent. 95% blue, excepting cylinder, with
traces, balance gray patina; 95% silver, spot wear on triggerguard; 80% case-hardening.
Grips excellent, with 98% varnish, minor chip at top of right grip panel where it meets
frame just below hammer. Fine case with light marks; interior with some stains;
accessories very good; nicks on mushroom rammer and on mold. Mechanism needs adjustment;
presently hair trigger.
