Rare Cased and Metal-Gripped Allen's Patent Pepperbox with Trade Label in Lid, Marked

Serial no. 79, .31 caliber percussion, 4-inch barrel cluster, 6-shot, one barrel rib
marked PATENTED 1837 CAST STEEL; bar hammer marked on left side J.G. BOLEN, N.Y. and on
top ALLEN'S PATENT; profuse scroll and border engraved frame and backstrap, with matching
nipple shield; blued; matching engraved German silver grips. Varnished mahogany case lined
in burgundy velvet; accessories of leather-covered brass plunger powder flask, bullet
mold, key, miscellaneous projectiles and wood handled steel cleaning rod. Rare trade label
for Bolen's pepperbox, in Spanish, pasted inside lid.
Condition: Excellent. 85% finish on barrel cluster; 35% blue on
nipple shield; light wear. Case excellent with minor exterior marks; interior with light
stains, including on trade label; accessories excellent.
