Superbly Restored Paterson Colt No. 3 Belt Model Revolver, with Ivory Grips and German
Silver Band and Escutcheon Inlays
Serial no. 180, .31 caliber percussion, 5-inch barrel, blued finish, with shell carved
one-piece ivory grips. Two German silver-inlaid bands at muzzle of barrel, two at breech,
two on underside adjacent to and on barrel lug; plus two like bands on recoil shield.
Scalloped German silver inlaid escutcheon on backstrap. German silver blade front sight.
Centaur cylinder roll scene.
Condition: Fine as cleaned and refinished. Replacement mainspring,
hand and spring, trigger and cylinder spring, as well as ivory grips. The cylinder roll
scene carefully freshened; pitting, generally light, visible on breech and face of
cylinder, back of barrel, face of recoil shield, top of frame plate and on cylinder pin
and turning ring.
Note: Revolver had been in a fire, and was featured in the Norm Flayderman catalogue
no. 58 (June 1862), item 743. The description noted: "The piece has been in a fire
& metal blackened. Does not show much wear, should clean [very good to excellent]
& better/[markings are [excellent]+. Cyl engr is clear & visible, if cleaned
properly should be [very good]+ if not better." Photograph in the catalogue clearly
shows the German silver bands intact and the metal appears relatively clean.

similar examples pictured on pages 107, 108, and 112 - though each has wood grips. See

revolver is the variation depicted in plates 13, 13A.
The revolver is the Belt Model variation with flared grips, flared barrel lug at
juncture with frame, round back cylinder, and made without loading lever.
