Scarce U.S. Martially Marked Colt Single Action Army Revolver, with John T. Cleveland
Inspector Markings
Serial no. 34905, .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with standard Hartford single line
address marking; three-line three-patent date marking on left side of frame with U.S.
stamped to right; blued finish with case-hardened frame and hammer; one piece oil-finished
walnut grips. JTC in cartouche on right grip panel, left grip panel with cartouche DAL,
beneath date 1877; inspector markings on various parts, including tiny letters J.T.C. and
P. Sold together with a Colt factory letter showing revolver was shipped to the U.S.
Government on February 13, 1877 in a shipment of 200. Also included is a photostatic flle
on the Cleveland Inspected U.S. Colt single action revolvers.
Condition: Very good. Traces blue and case-hardening, balance brown
patina, pitting, wear; tracking marks on cylinder; grips cleaned but retaining visible
markings, marks and wear at butt.
Note: DAL the initials of Lt. David A. Lyle. Accompanied by Colt factory letter, noting
shipment to the U.S. government site at the Colt factory, 1877.
