Helfricht Shop-Engraved Colt Single Action Revolver with Pearl Grips
Serial no. 126414, .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with one-line maker and Hartford
address marking on top; 45 CAL on left side of front bow of triggerguard; three-line three
patent date marking on left side of frame; nickel-plated with gold-plated cylinder, blued
screws, cylinder pin and trigger; mother-of-pearl grips. Scroll and border engraved on
barrel, cylinder and frame; ejector rod housing and gripstraps with zig-zag lines and
punched dot motifs; sunburst motif on top flat of backstrap and on altering chambers of
cylinder. Sold together with Colt factory letter stating revolver left factory with nickel
finish and gilt cylinder; grips not listed; factory engraved; shipped to E.C. Meacham Arms
Company, St. Louis, Mo.; June 28, 1888; Guns in shipment: 1. There is an addendum to the
letter stating that there is another listing for this same serial number indicating a
.44-40 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel; nickel finish; and rubber stocks. This revolver was
shipped to Colt's Patent Fire-arms Mfg. Co. San Francisco Agency, San Francisco,
California on May 31, 1888.
Condition: Very good. 75% nickel, fading, wear and spots light patina
or pitting; 30% nickel on backstrap, primarily on butt; traces blue; engraving generally
sharp; antique grips very good, some fading of color, partly due to oil stains; minor
chipping and wear at butt and on left panel at juncture with rear of frame. Cylinder
gold-plating appears old refinish; with patina and tracking lines.
