Fine Japanese Snap-Matchlock Pistol, c. 18th/19th century
Having a robust, tapering octagonal bronze barrel with strongly moulded muzzle
damacened in silver, standing sights damascened in gold and silver, decorated with a
damascened dragon in clouds over its full length; with Tokugawa mon and three brief
inscriptions, including the date of manufacture 1732, all damascened in gold, fitted with
bronze pan, fence and pan cover, each parcel damacened. Plain bronze lock with figured
wooden fullstock decorated with five gilt-lacquered Tokugawa mon; small plain bronze
mounts and trigger and original wooden ramrod. Size: 13 5/8-inches long.
Condition: Fine. Fore-end has had a fine crack in the stock repaired
on the right side near muzzle. Barrel retaining pin missing.
