Silver-Inlaid Deluxe Flintlock Kentucky Rifle Signed with Script P on Barrel
.48 caliber, 43 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with open sights; signed at breech in script:
P. Lightly engraved flint lock; brass and silver mountings, including silver half moon
inlay on cheekpiece and silver overlays and inlay to cheekpiece; tube for holding pricker
to clean out touchhole. Two oval silver inlays on each side of fore-end of the full curly
maple stock; lightly scroll and border engraved and extensively pierced brass patchbox;
pierced toeplate to match. Engraved silver scroll motifs inlaid around upper tang on
stock. Silver teardrop motif inlaid on each side of wrist. Lightly engraved brass
sideplate. Double set triggers; hickory ramrod with twist decor; patchbox release button
on heel of buttplate. Overall length: 59 3/8 inches. Weight: 11 lbs.
Condition: Very good. Brown patina to steel; pitting, wear. Barrel
breech and lock reconverted to flintlock. Silver partially tarnished; remainder protected
by varnish. Break at stock forward of and adjacent to triggerguard tang; old repair
including carefully inserted wood replacement. Minor wood mars and wear; fine, long crack
on either side of fore-end back from brass fore-end cap at muzzle. Likely replacement
sideplate; repairs to triggerguard. Small rectangles of wood replacement on each side
above rear triggerguard tang.
