Scarce U.S. Virginia Manufactory 2nd Model Flintlock Rifle
.50 caliber rifled octagonal barrel of 41 13/16 inch length. VIRGINIA over Manufactory
on lockplate forward of hammer; RICHMOND in arc over date 1809 on tail of lockplate. 13
stamped on top of barrel breech. Kentucky rifle style open sights, with German silver
blade mounted on base of like material, dovetailed at muzzle. Brass mountings, including
patchbox. Stock appears to be maple, instead of the standard walnut; with cheekpiece; AC
carved in period style on cheekpiece, and LL on bottom of buttstock, with IIII stamping.
Hickory ramrod with brass tip.
Condition: Very good as configured; gray patina to steel with light
pitting; mellow patina to brass. Enlarged screw holes. Modified inletting in lock cavity.
Touch hole re-bushed. Lock screw holes enlarged. Minor crack on right side of fore-end
near center ramrod ferrule; and minor crack from front of lockplate up to barrel. Front
barrel wedge missing.
