Fine Kentucky Flintlock Pistol by Andrew Verner
.52 caliber smoothbore, 7 5/8-inch part round, part octagonal barrel; engraved brass
mountings in C-scroll German-American folk art style; incised rococo carving to varnished
curly maple stock. Hickory ramrod. Oval silver thumbpiece escutcheon, engraved with AS or
AV initials (latter believed to indicate Andrew Verner). Overall length 13-inches.
Condition: Very good. Brown and gray patina to steel, light pitting;
mellow brass patina; rich patina to varnished stock; crack on right side of fore-end.
Note: Design influenced by English officer's holster pistols. Verner was a
distinguished gunmaker of Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

1760-1845, pictured p. 13. The book speculates that the "original owner was probably
an officer who had purchased a matched pair as his personal holster pistols." The
authors also indicate that the "survival rate of Kentucky pistols indicates that one
Kentucky pistol was made for about every 250 Kentucky rifles."
