A Rare and Historic Gold and Silver Inlaid 20-Shot Revolving Pinfire Rifle, with Gold
Inlaid Barrel Marking of Politician and Winemaker Domingo Fernandez Concha
.31 caliber, 1 1/2-inch long 20-shot pinfire cylinder; revolving mechanism operating
both double and single action; engraved on face of cylinder with motif of two female roe
deer; the octagonal barrel of 26-in. length, flush gold inlaid on top of breech in front
of folding ladder style rear sight DOMINGO FERNANDEZ CONCHA; front sight a tapered blade
dovetailed at muzzle; crown over K proofmark on right lower angle flat of barrel at breech
and on breech of cylinder; latter also with EL/G/* Liege blackpowder proof stamping;
browned barrel, case-hardened frame and frame plate and ejector rod; blued cylinder,
sights and buttplate. Gold inlaid intertwined motif on large curl of triggerguard, with
coat of arms motif gold inlaid on bottom of guard; gold inlaid floral and geometric
devices on each side of frame, and on barrel breech, barrel lug and at heel of buttplate.
Extensive silver border and geometric inlay on frame, triggerguard, upper tang and on
barrel and barrel lug. Gold and silver inlaid cylinder at front of each chamber.
Oil-stained select walnut stock; sling swivels.
Condition: Fine to excellent. 95% browning; 40% case-hardening,
primarily on recoil shield plate. 45% blue on cylinder and buttplate, with pitting,
primarily on cylinder breech and buttplate heel. Stock fine, nicks and scratches; wood
with old cleaning.
Note: The triggerguard gold inlay depicts the coat of arms of Chile, home of the
original owner, Don Domingo Fernández Concha. A distinguished politician, Fernández
founded the Viña Santa Rita winery, in 1880. Infatuated with the finest of wines, he
promoted the introduction of the best in French vine stocks. Working with expert
penologists, he began producing wines using sophisticated techniques. The results were far
superior to those traditionally achieved by rivals.
