Heavy 12 Gauge John P. Lovells Sons Hammer Double Barrel Shotgun
Serial no. 8375. 12 gauge. 32 inch twist barrels. Matted flat twist rib marked: Prize
Gun. Extended rib with doll's head. Case hardened action with rebounding bar-action locks
40% engraved with foliate scroll and flying ducks.
Checkered pistolgrip stock of figured walnut. Hard rubber buttplate. Vacant shield.
Checkered pull-off splinter fore-end with horn tip.
Condition: Fine. Showing little use. Barrels show 94-96% browned
finish with spotting and isolated areas of light corrosion. Bores show heavy frosting.
Action shows 70-80% case colors with some slight spotting. Small patch of corrosion on
right hammer. Wood shows nicks, scratches and impressions. Area of removed finish on
underside of fore-end.

Provenance: Note: John P. Lovell was a sporting gun dealer, importer and maker located
on the East Coast. The business went through a number of partnerships. This gun was made
during the time that his sons operated the business, hence the name. This gun was likely a
live pigeon gun.
