Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Sporting Rifle, with Modern One of One Thousand
Engraving
Serial no. 42089, .44-40 caliber, 24-inch octagonal barrel, standard maker, address and
patent date marking; elkhorn rear sight and German silver blade front sight on steel base
dovetailed at muzzle. Silver-inlaid barrel bands at breech and muzzle; scroll engraved
borders at breech and muzzle of barrel; inscribed "One of One Thousand" at
barrel breech. Checkered and varnished select walnut stocks.
Condition: Good. Brown and gray patina, pronounced pitting; stocks
with old revarnish and freshened checkering; wear and nicks. Note modern One of One
Thousand inscription and engraving to muzzle and breech. Screw missing from fore-end cap.
Note: Winchester factory records do not indicate that 42089 was a One of One Thousand.
