"SWISS CROSS IN SHIELD DWM "PROTOTYPE" 1906 "E" RANGE LUGER. SN E790. Cal. 30 Luger. A most rare Luger(to Mr. Smith's knowledge only one other exists and that one is in a Swiss Museum, therefore he believes this to be the only one in private hands) with 4-3/4" bbl, DWM scroll on front toggle link, Geneva cross & shield over chamber, and "E" prefix 3-digit serial number. It has Geneva cross proofs on bbl, receiver & some small parts with "P50" on left side of receiver. Number "35" appears internally on some parts. Fitted with full checkered wood grips & accompanied by an orig Swiss magazine with metal disk in wooden base. Full serial number was observed on various parts including bbl, receiver lug, rear toggle & frame. Last two digits of serial number were observed on breech block, front toggle, bottom of sideplate & grip safety. Sideplate has number "35" inside toe. Grips are unnumbered but have heart & various other proofs and appear to be orig to pistol. A rare "E" series Swiss Luger that appears to be all orig and has not been converted. Mr. Smith states that this example came from the same place as the "V" Range Test, SN: V11, it went to the 1899 Swiss Tests and was purchased out of the famed Dr. Poppe Collection. PROVENANCE: Doug Smith Collection. CONDITION: Very fine, overall retains about 97-98% strong orig factory blue on bbl, breech block, both toggle links & receiver. Frame retains about 80% orig factory blue turning dull with sideplate about 75%. Overall retains about 80% orig factory straw colors. Grips are sound showing light to moderate wear with nice color, a few chipped diamonds & some oil staining around left top edge. Magazine is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. 4-36096 JR217 & BS (15,000-20,000)"
