"SIMSON & CO. "S" TOGGLE LUGER. SN 1018a. Cal. 9 mm. Usual configuration with 4" bbl, large Gothic letter "S" on front toggle link, with Eagle "6" on all parts including grips. Mounted with full checkered walnut grips & accompanied by a matching numbered aluminum base magazine. This is a rare variation Simson that is very difficult to find in such nice, original, all matching condition. Although 10,000-12,000 of these pistols were manufactured in 1933-34 period, few survive intact with much orig condition. Most were issued to German armed forces & saw heavy service throughout war leaving most with worn surfaces or damaged & changed parts. PROVENANCE: Doug Smith Collection. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine, all matching including grips & magazine. Overall retains about 95% orig blue & about 60% orig straw colors. Grips are very fine with a few minor chipped diamonds & retain beautiful wood grain with light to moderate wear. Magazine is extremely fine. Mechanics are fine, bore is bright & sharp with a minor spot or two of light frosting. A rare pistol in wonderful condition. 4-36133 JR184 & BS (10,000-12,500)"
