Cased Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoon Pocket Revolver, with Accessories
Serial no. 3993, .31 caliber percussion, 5-shot cylinder with Dragoon and Indians roll
scene, 4-inch barrel with two-line Address Saml Colt/New-York City marking within
brackets; COLTS/PATENT on left side of frame. Blued, with case-hardened hammer and frame;
silver-plated brass gripstraps; varnished walnut grips. 998 on bottom of wedge, with
another 3-digit number stamped out. Mahogany case lined in burgundy velvet, with eagle
powder flask, blued steel COLTS/PATENT bullet mold, packet Hazard's combustible envelope
cartridges, and container of Eley Bros. caps.
Condition: Excellent. Gray patina, light pitting; cylinder scene 75%;
95% silver on gripstrap, 95% on buttstrap, 10% on backstrap; grips with 50% varnish, light
wear. Case fine with crack on lid; nicks and marks, some to interior. Fading and light
wear, likely old relining; accessories very good.
Note: Several early features of Baby Dragoon, including thin triggerguard shoulders,
cupped tip of cylinder pin for use as ramrod, oval cylinder stop slots and grip profile,
