Exceptionally Carved Ivory Boar Tusk Powder Flask [probably French Dieppe,
19th-century]
Rich and ornately intaglio-carved hippo ivory wild boar tusk, each side with highly
detailed and intricately rendered hunting scenes depicting hounds in pursuit of wild boar
with mounted hunters firing and spearing at boar and bear in flight. Edges of tusk with
carved scales. The tip with highly accurately carved image of a boar's head. Cap with
carved rope edging and leafy motifs. No stopper. Size: 10 1/4-inches.
Condition: Excellent. Showing rich and mellow age patina. Mounting
rings missing but holes remaining.
