Rare Merwin Hulbert & Co. First Model Open Top Single Action Army Revolver with
Several Unusual Features
Serial no. 2137, .44 centerfire caliber, six-shot cylinder with scoop type flutes,
7-inch barrel with standard Merwin Hulbert & Co., New York and patent dates on top of
barrel; Hopkins & Allen maker, Norwich Conn. U.S.A. address on left side; blued with
case-hardened hammer and triggerguard; checkered red hard rubber grips. Lanyard ring on
butt.
Condition: Fine. 45% blue, balance flaking, steel turned brown and
gray with surface patina; tracking lines on cylinder; grips sharp and with bright color.
Note: Scarce combination of blued finish, red checkered grips, open top frame, scooped
cylinder flutes, wedge for retaining barrel on the cylinder pin, and double latch on
cylinder release button.
