Fine Colt Third Model Dragoon Revolver, with Rare 8-Inch Barrel
Serial no. 18552, .44 caliber percussion cylinder; 8-inch part round, part octagonal
barrel marked ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY; COLTS/PATENT in tiny letters stamped on
left side of frame; Texas Rangers and Comanche Indian fight cylinder roll scene with U.S.
DRAGOONS within upper cartouche above serial number; blued with case-hardened hammer,
loading lever and frame; silver-plated brass gripstraps; varnished walnut grips. Matching
number 8552 on bottom of wedge and on top of loading lever lug.
Condition: Fine. 40% blue, balance brown and gray, spots of pitting
and scattered nicks; cylinder with sharp roll scene, brown patina, light pitting; 35%
case-hardening; four of cylinder safety pins excellent, remaining two mashed; gripstraps
with 95% silver-plating on triggerguardstrap, and 60% on backstrap; grips 75% varnish and
with mars and wear. Fine bore.
