Engraved Colt Single Action Army with Relief-Carved Steerhead Ivory Grips
Serial no. 125503, .45 caliber, 5 1/2-inch barrel with one-line maker and Hartford
address marking on top; three-line three patent date marking on left side of frame; 45 CAL
on left side of front bow of triggerguard; nickel-plated with blued screws and cylinder
pin; ivory grips with relief carved steerhead motif on right panel. Scroll and border
engraved on barrel, cylinder and frame; backstrap and triggerguard with intertwined lines;
sunburst motif on top flat of backstrap. Sold together with a Colt factory letter
confirming configuration. Also included is a 8 X 10 inch glossy photo of Sheriff Bob K.
Lutz, apparently a prior owner of this revolver.
Condition: Very good. 25% nickel, tarnished, fading, pitting and
patina; wear; grips worn and with cracks and repairs to both panels.
Note: Engraving of the so-called New York style, executed by craftsmen the likes of
L.D. Nimschke. Colt factory letter indicates shipment to Hartley and Graham, New York
City, in the soft, in 1888. Revolver with history of ownership by a lawman in Colorado.
