Very Fine Cased Elaborate Exhibition Engraved Gold Finished Adams-Beaumont Patent
Percussion Revolver by E. M. Reilly & Co., London, No. 42304, c. 1855
3 1/4-inch octagonal barrel (lacking fore-sight) engraved along top-strap E. M. Reilly
& Co. New Oxford Street London., extensively engraved with robust foliate scrolls gold
overall, side-mounted loading lever, double-action mechanism, deep-relief carved ivory
grip with rose, thistle and clover motifs; ivory-mounted gold-finished steel turn-screw
and nipple-wrench, scroll-engraved double ball mold with sprue-cutter, gold-finished
cleaning rod, gold-finished cap-box inscribed on lid: E.M. REILLY & CO. NEW OXFORD ST.
LONDON 12 RUE SCRIBE PARIS, two-piece ivory cap-box inlaid on the lid with small ebony
molding and blue-paste insert, gold-washed three-piece oil vessel marked JAMES DIXON &
SONS SHEFFIELD, very fine scroll-engraved gold-finished diminutive powder flask; the whole
contained within an ebony (likely veneer) case lined with deep red velour and gilt-stamped
E.M. REILLY & CO. GUN MANUFACTURERS. 502 NEW OXFORD ST. LONDON, the exterior eight
gilt reinforcements embellished with scrolls, shield form and keyplate.
Condition: Very good, lacking foresight as noted, mechanically fine,
the flask with shallow dent on one side, some losses to gilt-stamping to interior of lid,
insignificant cracks on lid, ivory grip shows some small expected light cracking.
