Elegant J.J. Henry Flintlock Kentucky Rifle, with Silver Inlaid Cheekpiece and
Handsome Brass Patchbox
J.J. HENRY/BOULTON on lockplate, .50 caliber, 41 1/4-inch octagonal barrel, border
engraved lock, and scrollwork on some of the brass mountings, including handsome pierced
patchbox; oval silver cheekpiece inlay, with floral and decorative motif; silver oval
thumbpiece; varnished curly maple fullstock with hickory ramrod.
Condition: Very good to fine; reconversion lock and barrel breech.
Mellow patina to brass mounts; engraving sharp. Wear and mars on stock, with 60% varnish.
Steel brown and with patina, pitting. Some repair around rear of lock; chip from wood at
right side of toe of butt.
Note: John Joseph Henry listed in Frank Sellers AMERICAN GUNSMITHS as gunmaker in
Philadelphia 1808-1820, and in Boulton, Pennsylvania, 1820-1836. Son of J.J. Henry,
gunmaker.
