Buck and Ball Flintlock Kentucky Rifle by S. Gobrecht, with Incised Carved Full Stock,
c. 1790-1800
.48 caliber, 45 1/4-inch round smoothbore barrel with octagonal breech, marked on top
"S. GOBRECHT"; lightly engraved lock marked KETLAND; open rear sight dovetailed
near breech; German silver front sight blade on base dovetailed at muzzle. Single scroll
trigger. Brass mounts, including classic Kentucky triggerguard, patchbox with star
terminal to front mount, ramrod thimbles, fore-end cap, buttplate, toeplate, and
sideplate. Hickory ramrod with twist decoration. Steel trigger plate. Oil-stained tiger
stripe maple fullstock, with scroll and straight-line incised carving.
Condition: Very good. Steel with brown patina, pitting, latter
primarily on lock and at breech of barrel. Brass with mellow patina, could use careful
cleaning, primarily at right side of barrel breech, by hammer and forward of frizzen;
crack from barrel breech short distance to sideplate screw. Possibly old reconversion.

Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania; active from early 19th century; died 1836.
