Kentucky Rifle Conversion from Flintlock, with Fine Brass Patchbox, c. 1830
.54 caliber percussion, with 40-inch octagonal rifled barrel; open adjustable sporting
rear sight, brass blade front sight dovetailed near muzzle; brass mountings, including
handsome border-engraved brass patchbox, double set triggers; oval silver escutcheon
inlaid on cheekpiece; brass sideplate; light engraving on lock and hammer. Full length
walnut stock with brass fore-end cap and ramrod ferrules. Hickory ramrod.
Condition: Good to very good. Pitting, primarily on lock and breech
of barrel; brown patina to steel; some vise marks on barrel breech; missing thumbpiece
escutcheon on stock wrist; cracks on fore-end and at butt. Rear sight missing adjustment
ramp. Toe plate bent.
