Cased 12 gauge W. Sumners Hammer Double Barrel Shotgun.
Serial no. 1272. 12 gauge. 28-inch blued Damascus barrels. Smooth concave rib with
maker's name and address. Case hardened top lever action with bar-action rebounding locks
fully engraved with fine foliate scroll. Ornate high hammers. Percussion fences. Checkered
straight-grip stock of straight-grained walnut. Small diameter grip. Heel and toe plates.
Vacant silver oval. Checkered splinter fore-end with wedge fastener.
Leather trunk case with brass lock and green baize interior.
Condition: Condition: Fine, as partially redone. Barrels show 95 -
98% re-blued finish. Bright bores. Patch of light rust on lump and rear of underside
barrels. Action shows a silver patina. Re-blued hammers and triggerguard. Rear of
triggerguard and lower tang shows a repair. Refinished stock shows nicks, scratches and
recut checkering. Fore-end shows considerable wear to checkering with areas of
pattern-only. Case in very good/good condition with scuffing to edges and broken straps.
Interior shows losses and fading.
