Rare and Exceptional Maynard Second Model Carbine by Massachussetts Arms Company, Made
in 1865
Serial no. 25215, .50 caliber, Single-shot, 20-inch part round, part octagonal blued
barrel with dovetailed front sight and three-position folding-leaf rear sight. Left side
of barrel marked: M. Case-hardened frame and lever with proper maker markings. Martial
blue hammer. Lower tang marked: 1865 and 25215. Standard walnut stock with two crisp JM
cartouches. Case-hardened buttplate.
Condition: Excellent to mint, retaining virtually 100% finish with
minor thinning of case-hardening on lever and buttplate. Remaining case-hardening vibrant
with color. Wood mint with crisp markings. A truly exceptional example of this model,
perhaps the best in existence.
