Rare J. Henry Flintlock Militia Contract Pistol, c. 1812
.62 caliber smoothbore, 9 7/8-inch pin-fastened round barrel with sunken P marking at
breech; unidentified number and letter stampings on upper tang; barrel with brass blade
front sight; slightly pointed terminus to lock with American eagle motif over J. HENRY
marking forward of hammer, PHILA vertically to rear; brass mountings; steel likely made
with browned finish; walnut stock and hickory ramrod.
Condition: Very good. Gray and brown patina to steel, pitting; stock
with repaired fore-end and small piece above upper tail of lock; oval relief copper
thumbpiece escutcheon added likely after service use; nicks and wear on stock, light
chipping, minor cracks. Mechanism needs repair; hammer does not stay at half or full cock.
