Rare and Fine Robert McCormick U.S. Navy Flintlock Pistol, Marked McCORMICK, U.S. and
UNITED STATES and with Ketland & Co. Lock
.64 caliber flintlock, 10 1/4-inch round barrel; brass mounted walnut full stock, with
brass band 1-inch from muzzle; Ketland & Co. in script on lock plate; UNITED/STATES
stamped behind hammer; US on breech of barrel with eagle head over P cartouche; V on left
side of stock behind sideplate; US to rear of sideplate, and vertical marking in wood:
"McCORMICK".
Condition: Fine. Gray patina to steel; light pitting on lock; mellow
patina to brass, with pitting. Stock worn, metal and wood with old cleaning; repair to
stock at front of lock and angling down to front tang of triggerguard.
Note: The McCormick U.S. Navy Flintlock is a rarely seen U.S. martial arm, dating c.
1797-1800 - and possibly preceding the North & Cheney. This specimen is considered to
be the best known example.
