Rare Flintlock Pistol by H. Young & Co., New-York
.62 caliber smoothbore, 8 3/4-inch steel barrel with Birmingham proofmarks at breech;
made without sights; engraved lock, with H. YOUNG/& Co. marking; engraved barrel
breech and upper tang, with NEW-YORK on breech; engraved brass triggerguard and buttcap;
brass ramrod ferrule; brass tipped ramrod; oil-finished walnut stock.
Condition: Fine. Gray patina to steel; light pitting; stock with
light nicks, minor wear.
Note: Type used by civilians, or by Horse Troops, or issued to state militia. With
embellishments, these pistols most likely to have been used by officers. See page 312 of
Smith and Bitter book on U.S. Martial pistols for illustration of similar pistol, also
marked H. Young & Co., New York.
