Rare Variation of Fourth Type Flat Lock A.H. Waters & Co. Percussion Pistol,
Marked JH
.54 caliber, smoothbore 8 1/2-inch round barrel; faint marking of JH and P on left side
of barrel at breech; brass mountings, including barrel band and strap extension, excepting
steel triggerguard (mounted on brass trigger strap); with bolster at nipple. JH at barrel
breech. No maker marking; flatish but round-sided hammer. No inspector cartouche markings
on oil-finished walnut stock. Lock comes to point at rear. Made without rear sight on
upper tang of barrel.
Condition: Good. Gray patina, extensive pitting to steel; nicks on
brass backstrap. Stock with nicks, mars, dents and with chips missing from rear top and
bottom of lockplate.
