U.S. Model 1817 Common Conversion Rifle by N. Starr
.54 caliber, 7-groove rifling, 36-inch round barrel with open sights, three bands and
breech marked: US/JH/P[within circle]. Belgian-type cone conversion. Bright-finished steel
with case-hardened lockplate marked: U.S./N. Starr/1824/MidnCon. Standard walnut stock
with steel furniture and patchbox. Faint cartouche present. Steel ramrod with brass tip.
Sling mounts [see Flayderman 9A-244].
Condition: Excellent for this model. Polished bright metal with
strong case colors on lockplate. Strong markings. Wood fine with only minor marks and
wear.
Note: Only 4020 of this model were issued in the 1823 contract.
