"COLT MODEL 1911 US NAVY SEMI-AUTO MILITARY PISTOL. SN 38144. Cal. 45 ACP. 1913 Navy contract 1911 pistol with 5" bbl having the "H" & "P" proofs on the skirt perpendicular to the bore. Slide has usual markings with the last patent date being 1911. Right side of slide is marked "MODEL 1911 U.S. NAVY". The rear sight is of the flat top variety, not the rounded type. Left front side of frame has "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with the "WGP" inspector mark for Major Walter G. Penfield and serial number is above trigger opening on right side. There is a small "5" in right front web of trigger guard. Accompanied by one 2-tone lanyard loop magazine. These pistols were almost immediately put into service, generally aboard ship and saw service throughout World Wars I & II and are rarely found to have survived with much orig finish. CONDITION: Very fine.ááSlide retains 95-97% strong bright orig charcoal blue with only slight muzzle & sharp edge wear.ááFrame retains most of its strong bright orig blue on the sides & front with trigger guard also very strong.ááFront strap retains about 50-60% thin orig blue with the mainspring housing & grip safety retaining about 80% thin orig blue.ááGrips are sound with a few chipped diamonds showing moderate wear, especially on right side.ááMagazine is dark with a medium brown patina on the white area.ááMechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-32981 (6,000-10,000)"
