Rare German Gilt Copper Circular Pocket Powder Flask, Augsburg, c. 1600
The gilt copper pistol powder flask of circular form, the front with finely engraved
scene of wild horses engaged in combat, the circular vignette surrounded with fine laurel
leaf borders. The reverse with dramatic scene of Zeus, Hermes and Hera amidst the clouds
of Mount Olympus, Sides of flask with diamond pattern decoration. Spring-loaded spout. Two
ring mounts. Size: 2 5/8-inches diameter.
Condition: Excellent with light age patina. Minor edge knock on
bottom.
Provenance: A virtually identical flask is part of the Odescalchi Collection.
