Rare U.S. Martial Second Contract North & Cheney Flintlock Pistol
Serial no. 697, .72 caliber smoothbore, 8 1/2-inch round barrel, brass frame with
bottom stamped: NORTH AND CHENEY BERLIN. Faintly visible PV on barrel at breech, as well
as US. CH on front of walnut stock at butt.
Condition: Very good. Mellow brass patina, nicks and marks, primarily
on buttcap. Steel brown patina, pitting, including at muzzle. Stock with chips, primarily
from bottom front left at juncture with frame and at top right at juncture with barrel
breech; repaired crack through grip at butt. Replacement mainspring, two frame screws and
ramrod; mechanism needs repair, hammer will not stay at full or half cock.
Note: One of a handful known of the 1,500 of the Second Contract North & Cheney
pistols.
