Fine American Halfstock Target Rifle by J. H. Rector
Serial no. 412, .40 caliber, 25-inch heavy octagonal barrel with hooded front sight,
blanked mid-sight and threaded adjustable tang-mounted peep sight. Steel under-rib. Barrel
marked: J.H. Rector/Syracuse/N.Y./412. Scroll-engraved breech, tang, lock and screws.
Double set-triggers. Finely checkered deluxe walnut stock with pewter fore-end, German
silver wedge escutcheons and scroll-engraved furniture. Scroll-engraved oval buttstock
side escutcheons. Wooden ramrod with steel tip.
Condition: Fine to excellent. Barrel with beautiful, smooth age
patina with scattered light wear and fine scratches. Wood fine with minor sliver repair on
left side of stock, hardly visible and a few minor dents and bruises. Front trigger
possibly shortened. Bore with strong rifling and minor pitting. Obviously, a special order
rifle with deluxe features, typical of the work done by Rector who was known specifically
for his target rifles.
