Fine Sharps Model 1853 Slant Breech Single Shot Breechloading Percussion Sporting
Rifle
Serial no. 14755, .44 caliber, 24 1/4-inch octagonal barrel with hooded front sight,
vacant mid-sight and tang-mounted long-range peep sight. Top flat of barrel marked: Sharps
Rifle/Manufg,/Hartford Conn. Case-hardened breech, frame, hammer, lever, patchbox and
buttplate. Double set-triggers. Walnut stocks with pewter fore-end cap.
Condition: Excellent and possibly unfired. Barrel retaining 90-95%
blue finish, now faded to rich plum brown with slight wear to relief edges. 70-75%
case-hardening remaining with areas of irridescence still present. Wood excellent with a
few insignificant marks. Action excellent. Mirror bright bore.
Note: Approximately 600 of this model were manufactured.
