Scarce and Exceptional U.S. Springfield Second Model 1866 Allin Conversion Rifle
Unserialized. .50 centerfire caliber, 36 5/8-inch polished steel barrel lined and
rebored to .50 caliber. Blued two-position folding-leaf rear sight and three polished
steel barrel bands. Blued breechblock marked: 1866/[eaglehead]. Initials J.B. on left side
under breech. Eaglehead at breech. Case-hardened hammer and lock mechanism. Lock marked:
[spread eagle]/U.S./Springfield/1864. Standard walnut stock with crisp ESA and another
illegible cartouche. Polished steel mountings. Steel ramrod. Sling mounts.
Condition: Excellent to mint. Retaining bright metal finish overall.
Blued and case-hardened elements retaining 100% vibrant finish. Wood near mint. Bright
bore.
Note: 25,000 of this model were manufactured. This example one of finest in existence.
