U.S. Springfield Model 1869 Cadet Trapdoor Rifle
Serial no. 3418, .50 caliber, 29 5/8-inch barrel with standard military sights and two
barrel bands. Barrel and breech both marked 3418. Metal bright-finished. Case-hardened
breech and high-arch breechblock marked: 1870/[eaglehead]/U.S. Case-hardened hammer and
lock mechanism marked: U.S./Springfield/1863. Standard walnut stock with SWP/1881
cartouche. Steel ramrod.
Condition: Excellent. Metal showing original bright finish with
slight wear overall. Minor pitting near muzzle. Case-hardened elements retaining traces of
faded and silvered case-hardening with light wear overall. Wood excellent with scattered
wear and light blemishes. Bright bore.
