U.S. Springfield Model 1870 Trapdoor Rifle
Serial no. 4297, .50 caliber, 32 1/2-inch barrel with barrel lug front sight and
ladder-type military rear sight. Two barrel bands. Barrel marked: 4297 at breech.
High-arch breechblock marked: [eaglehead]/U.S. Lock marked: [spread
eagle]/U.S./Springfield/1863. Standard walnut stock with TWP inspector cartouche.
Buttplate marked: U.S/D/8. Steel ramrod. Sling mounts.
Condition: Very good. Metal with smooth grey patina, showing
scattered wear overall. Wood with minor wear and light marks.
