U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle
Serial no. 59597, .45-70 caliber, 32 5/8-inch barrel with pedestal front sight and
ladder-type rear sight. Marked at breech: V/P/[eaglehead]. Two barrel bands. Blued finish.
Case-hardened high-arch breechblock marked: Model/1873/U.S. Lock marked: [spread
eagle]/U.S./Springfield/1873. Standard walnut stock with ESA cartouche. Circle
"P" cartouche behind tang. Steel ramrod. Sling mounts. Period leather military
sling. Brass inventory tag with number 153 attached to mount.
Condition: Excellent. Retaining approximately 90-95% finish with
scattered light wear to breechblock, lock and relief edges. Excellent wood with minor
dents and blemishes. Sling with wear. An excellent and discriminating example.
