Exceptional U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle
Serial no. 152265, .45-70 caliber, 32 5/8-inch barrel with standard military sights and
two barrel bands. Marked at breech: V/P/[eaglehead]/P/L/B. Blued finish. Case-hardened
breechblock marked: U.S./Model/1873, Martial blued hammer and lock marked: [spread
eagle]/U.S./Springfield/1873. Standard walnut stock with crisp SWP/1881 cartouche. Circle
"P" marking behind lower tang. Steel ramrod and sling mounts [see Flayderman
9A-372].
Condition: Excellent to mint. Retaining approximately 99-100% finish
with virtually no wear in evidence. Vibrant case-hardening. Wood near mint. Bright bore.
An exceptional example.
